Following its Executive Board meeting in April, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced that the 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Victoria, Australia. The opening ceremony will take place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The decision to award the Games to Victoria was made after a competitive bidding process. Victoria's bid was based on its strong sporting infrastructure, world-class sporting events experience, and commitment to delivering an inclusive and sustainable Games.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games are expected to attract over 6,500 athletes and officials from 72 nations and territories. The Games will feature 20 sports, including swimming, athletics, cycling, and hockey.
The announcement of the 2026 Commonwealth Games host city comes as Birmingham, England, prepares to host the 2022 Games. The Birmingham Games are scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 8, 2022.
