WVU DB Aubrey Burks Carted Off Field vs. Kansas
Burks Injures Knee in Second Quarter
West Virginia Mountaineers defensive back Aubrey Burks was carted off the field with a knee injury in the second quarter of Saturday's game against the Kansas Jayhawks. Burks was attempting to tackle Kansas running back Devin Neal when he appeared to injure his right knee. He was helped off the field by trainers and did not return to the game.
Severity of Injury Unknown
The severity of Burks' injury is not yet known. He will undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage. However, early reports indicate that it could be a serious injury.
Burks a Key Contributor for WVU
Burks is a key contributor for the Mountaineers. He is a starting safety and has played in all six games this season. He has recorded 20 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.
WVU Defense Struggling
The Mountaineers' defense has struggled this season, allowing 33.3 points per game. Burks' injury will only make things worse. West Virginia is now without its top two safeties, as fellow starter Saint McLeod is also out with an injury.
Kansas Takes Advantage
Kansas took advantage of Burks' absence, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead. The Jayhawks went on to win the game 55-42.
Burks' injury is a big blow to the Mountaineers' defense. He is a talented player who will be difficult to replace. West Virginia will need to find a way to fill the void left by Burks if they want to be successful in the second half of the season.
